STOP PRESS, March 2026 – we are very excited to announce that we have now set up a London Peace Centre (LPC). This is the first step towards creating an International Peace Museum and Centre in London.
The London Peace Centre is in the East End just near the City of London. With your help the pioneering, secular and non-party political London Peace Centre will grow and flourish providing a support hub for peace builders around the world and a meeting point where all generations can learn about peace builders through history, share stories of peace movements and remember the countless victims of conflict.
We’d love you to join our peacebuilding volunteers at the centre. Email: anna@thepeacebuilding.org.uk for a chat about this.
If you are a visionary philanthropist you could become one of the first to fund the London Peace Centre. To find out more please email our Founder: anna@thepeacebuilding.org.uk
More…
We have set up an Advisory Network of academics, artists and human rights experts.
More about our long term plans for the International Peace Museum in London.
We will ensure that the style of the Museum building itself will be conducive to the experience of peacefulness – though some of the exhibitions may be challenging because talking about peace inevitably means thinking about the many various forms of conflict. The internal and external spaces will encourage reflection, communication and connection. The International Peace Museum will inspire and equip people of all ages to act peacefully in all aspects of their lives; from the individual level (fostering inner peace) and our relationships with others – to streets and communities (including the global community).
What will the centre offer?
We will work hard to become a centre of excellence in peace education through our learning programmes for schools and colleges – both in the centre and through outreach. The centre will also provide public spaces to reflect, relax and explore… Including a cafe, exhibition space, a reference library, studios, meeting rooms, a space for quiet reflection, and an events space for talks, lectures, conferences and concerts. If you’d like to support the initiators of London’s first ever peace museum & education centre in realising their vision, why not make a donation to help us set up this important museum/centre by buying a virtual brick in memory of a loved one. Peace Building
Why do we need an International Peace Museum in London?
This pioneering space will provide a vital counter-narrative to the city’s numerous war museums, focusing instead on peace movements, conflict resolution, and human rights. Given London’s status as a global city with a rich history of protest and activism, it is the ideal location for such an institution. By highlighting the stories of peacemakers and exploring the complexities of peacebuilding, it will offer a balanced and critical perspective on human history.
The museum will be a powerful educational tool for future generations. Through exhibitions, workshops, and outreach programs, it will explore themes like non-violence, social justice, and intercultural understanding. This will help equip visitors with the skills to address conflict in their own lives and communities, helping to cultivate a global culture of peace.
Furthermore, a peace museum will serve as a powerful public space for reflection and dialogue, encouraging visitors to consider how peace can be actively pursued rather than merely being the absence of war. It will serve as a meeting point for different communities, fostering dialogue and connection. In a world marked by ongoing division and violence, a London peace museum will be a much-needed beacon of hope, reminding us of our shared humanity and inspiring action toward a more peaceful future.
Mobile amphitheatre seating might be used to create a sculptural addition to the gallery space and provide an informal area for talks and events. An open-plan approach for workshops, seminars, film screenings and lectures will encourage interaction, participation, and a cross-pollination of ideas.
A separate, contained studio space will be designed to support events and activities – including physical and mental wellbeing-based practices. This space will be connected to the building entrance in order to welcome and encourage use of the space by the local community and others.
A resource centre will house the archive material held at the Peace Building. This space will be provide a quiet learning hub. The resource centre will serve as a ‘toolkit’ for peace projects – housing physical archives as well as digital resources and information.
The shop will offer a range of merchandise opportunities; but more importantly serve to extend the resources of the Peace Building and its archive to visitors. The space will be accessible and open-plan, encouraging people to browse, interact and engage with others.
A series of flexible meeting spaces will provide areas for peace-based organisations, visiting groups and professionals to meet and conduct workshops. The spaces will be versatile in order to respond to different group sizes and functions – and will offer a pleasant, calm, non-formal vibe.
The central space of the building will be an open-plan, flexible area – providing an open-plan gallery space at the heart of the building; an open resource for exhibitions that are easily accessible to visitors.
An informal café, with an open-plan aspect to the rest of the building, will provide a warm welcome to the building. Hot-desking, meeting and dining will combine to encourage interaction in a warm and inviting environment.
The space to transform our world…
